Wow…Rollini was a vibe and bass sax master…he said his secret to make the bass sax so smooth was using a baritone sax mouthpiece…his orchestra work was phenomenal as well…he could play bass rhythm or solo on the bass sax …so versatile.

There is a lot of his bass saxophone playing in the Mosaic Venuti-Lang set. He can also be heard playing the hot fountain pen in that set - a short, keyless clarinet that sounds a lot lower than you would expect.

This is from the premier of THE ROGUE SONG 1930 M-G-M. As Lyman's orchestra is setting up you can hear a chorus singing the song "WHITE DOVE" which is from THE ROGUE SONG. The film premiered at Grauman's on February 17th 1930.

Abe Lyman's Orch didn't record "Singin' In The Bathtub" or "Hello Baby" commercially. Yet the band sounds exactly like their issued records. They were a professional, well rehearsed, consistent outfit. I know a few collectors who don't like the band, but they are one of my favorites.
